Policy Submission
Reports
We have produced two reports as part of Young Women's Policy Submission.
'Young Minds, Old Biases: The Gender-Based Violence Crisis' launched at NSW Parliament on Wednesday, 14th August 2024. This includes our gender-based violence (GBV) findings and recommendations.
'Young Women's Policy Submission' launched at Australian Parliament House on Wednesday, 21st August 2024. This includes our findings and recommendations across 10 core life areas (education, health, career, relationships, sex, family/friends, Australian society, political agency, policy preferences).
Our Contribution
Our goal is to add value and insight to existing research and policy approaches. We've aimed to do this through the following in our 2 reports:
-
Baselining data on young women and men's lives across 10 areas - something previously not done.
-
Proposing a comprehensive approach to gender justice that targets various life areas and levers (individual improvement; supportive networks and life-stage interventions; institutional and professional structures; societal and cultural transformation; systemic governance and coordination).
-
Creating life maps for young Australian men and women, identifying key risks and points of intervention to prevent snowballing disadvantage.
-
Developing an original GBV Risk Profile, which meaningfully assesses young men's likelihood of GBV perpetration.
-
Conducting original time progression analysis of which factors across family/friends, education, career, sex, health, and relationships contribute to GBV perpetration and exposure, and which factors are protective.
-
Taking an inclusive rather than an antagonistic view about young men's role in gender justice - in particular, asking them directly what would help in actualising positive behaviours.
-
Conducting demographic-specific analysis on which policy solutions are most effective for which groups, enabling the design of customised, more effective policy.
-
Mapping our research methods onto 'Working for Women: A 10 Year Strategy for Gender Equality' in order to support the strategy's objectives.
-
Articulating a vision for the future of feminism.
